Communications and Development Internship:

Location:

Camel’s Hump Farm (CHF) is a private non-profit Community Center for Nature, Education, Wellness and the Arts located in Bethlehem PA.  Its mission is to preserve, protect and sustainably reuse the Johnston Estate to meet the needs of our community.  The estate consists of 12 acres of diverse habitats on both the banks of the Monocacy Creek including an historic farmstead, hands-on Interpretive Center and 2 miles of hiking trails. 

 

Position Description: 

Communications Interns receive training in producing print, e-newsletters, working with social media, events planning, local print and television media connections to communicate effectively with the Nature Center’s target markets. The intern will produce print pieces  that can be used in their portfolio and will attend networking and planning meetings with various non-profit and for-profit business connections within the community.

 

Benefits:

Benefits include professional training, regular evaluations, and hands-on work experience in environmental education. Academic credit and/or a weekly reimbursement may be available for full time interns.

 

Qualifications:

CHF is seeking interns who have a desire to pursue a career in communications and non-profit work, have good computer skills, have an ability to relate well to all kinds of people, are self-motivated and reliable, and have excellent written and oral communication skills.  Hiring preference is given to junior or senior students who are pursuing a degree in a related field.

Environmental Education Internship

 

Location:

Camel’s Hump Farm (CHF) is a private non-profit environmental education center located in Bethlehem PA.  Its mission is to preserve, protect and sustainably reuse the Johnston Estate to meet the needs of our community.  The estate consists of 130 acres of diverse habitats on both the banks of the Monocacy Creek including an historic farmstead, hands-on Interpretive Center and 2 miles of hiking trails. 

 

Position Description: 

Environmental Education Interns receive training from professional naturalists to teach a variety of programs to visitors of all ages, help with ongoing research projects, and assist with program animal care.  Opportunities will be available to learn techniques for developing and evaluating programs as well as developing public exhibits and educational displays.  In addition, interns at CHF are expected to design and complete an individual project of their choice to be used at CHF in the future.

Horticulture

 

Location:

Position Description: 

Horticulture Interns receive training to help with the community garden utilizing Integrated Pest Management, assist with gardening at the Center, play an active role in park design, habitat restoration, storm water management and all horticulture activities at CHF. In addition, all interns at CHF are expected to design and complete an individual project of their choice to be used at CHF in the future.

Natural Resources

Non Profit Administration and Fundraising

Position Description:

Non Profit Administration and Fundraising interns receive training and experience in the administration of  a brand new nonprofit including developing the business, fund raising plans and policies and procedures. In addition they will be given opportunities to work on various projects and attend meetings accredited organizations. They will gain experience working in the field where they can network with other professionals.

Benefits include professional training, regular evaluations, and hands-on work experience in environmental education. Academic credit and/or a weekly reimbursement may be available for full time interns.

Building Trades

Camel’s Hump Farm (CHF) is a private non-profit environmental education center located in Bethlehem PA.  Its mission is to preserve, protect and sustainably reuse the Johnston Estate to meet the needs of our community.  The estate consists of 130 acres of diverse habitats on the banks of the Monocacy Creek including an historic farmstead, hands-on Interpretive Center and 2 miles of hiking trails. 

 

Position Description:

Building Trades interns will be given opportunities to work on restoration of the historic farm buildings and design and construction of park structures with accredited craftsmen. They will gain experience working in the field where they can network with other professionals.

Qualifications:

CHF is seeking interns who have a desire to pursue a career in building restoration and trades. Applicants should be self-motivated, reliable, and have excellent communication skills. They should also have basic knowledge in building trades.
